Cross folded leaflets

Cross fold leaflets, also known as French fold leaflets, use a folding technique where a sheet is folded in half one way and then folded in half again in the opposite direction. This creates four equal panels on each side, resulting in a compact, booklet-like format with eight panels in total. By folding the paper onto itself horizontally and vertically, the final size is reduced by four times, making the leaflet easy to handle, carry, and distribute, while still providing plenty of space for detailed content. When fully opened, the leaflet reveals a large printable area, making it ideal for designs that need clear organisation such as maps, brochures, invitations, or information guides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Folded leaflets (also known as folded pamphlets) are printed sheets folded into multiple panels. They allow you to include more information than a flat flyer while remaining compact and easy to distribute. Folded leaflets can be folded more than once, helping to divide content into clear, digestible sections. In the print industry, these panels are commonly referred to as pages, such as 4pp, 6pp, or 8pp.

Flat size refers to the full size of the leaflet before it is folded. This is the size your artwork must be designed to, showing all panels laid out on one complete sheet.

Finished size is the final size of the leaflet after folding. This is the size you receive when the leaflet is closed and ready for distribution.

Folded leaflets come in a variety of designs, each offering a unique layout and reading experience:

  • Half-Fold (Bi-Fold):
A simple fold in half, creating two panels on each side. Perfect for clean, minimal layouts.

  • Z-Fold (Concertina Fold):
Folded in a zig-zag pattern to form three panels that unfold like an accordion. Great for step-by-step guides or timelines.

  • Roll-Fold (Letter Fold):
Multiple panels folded inward sequentially, rolling the sheet into a compact format. Ideal for menus, instructions, or promotional leaflets.

  • Gate-Fold:
The sides fold inward to meet in the center, opening like doors. Excellent for dramatic reveals or high-impact visuals.

  • Double Gate Fold:
Similar to a gate fold but with an additional fold, creating more panels that open in layers. Perfect for showcasing multiple sections of content in a striking way.

  • Cross-Fold (Map-Fold):
Folded in both directions, often used for maps or layouts that need multiple panels in a compact format.

  • Accordion / Parallel Fold:
Multiple panels folded back and forth in a parallel sequence. Ideal for guides, event programs, or any leaflet needing sequential sections.
